Why us?

Our Mission

Given the acute problem of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) in Ukraine — Which the World Health Organization describes as among the worst in the world — UkraineWorks Ltd is dedicated to prevention of FASD through preventative education and training on how to teach individuals who already have FASD.

History of the Organization

Founding

Ukraine Works Ltd. was founded in the fall of 2007, the result of a request for information about “fetal alcohol” made by Stephan Severylov, then Director of the Mykolychin Internat (school for children with special needs). According to him, there was no information in Ukraine on FAS.

Ukraine Works Ltd was incorporated in the State of Vermont on February 20, 2008 and was granted tax-exempt status as a public charity under IRC Section 501(c)(3) on February 2, 2010 effective as of the date of incorporation.

Ukraine Works began by translating Canadian publications: Strategies Not Solutions and Teaching Students with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders: Building Strengths, Creating Hope into Ukrainian for use by the Mykolychin Internat. These were translated with permission from The Child and Youth Working Group, part of the Edmonton and Area Fetal Alcohol Network and Alberta Learning. See Resources to download these at no cost.
